The Crosby Arboretum NOLA BUG LADY Linda Auld: “Monarchs, Migration, Milkweed, and Oe”
Linda Barber Auld is the former owner/operator of Barber Laboratories, a pest control supply store that was founded in 1921 by her grandfather. Recently retired, Linda has studied and promoted understanding beneficial insects for 45 years, raised 148 species of butterflies and moths, conducted butterfly count surveys for the North American Butterfly Association for 30 years, and since 2014, to help monarch butterflies, has installed 17 school gardens, enhanced gardens in four Louisiana welcome centers, created monarch waystations in seven Louisiana cities plus at Mississippi’s Gloster Arboretum (and much, much more!). Linda will share recent research papers with big discoveries from three major universities regarding milkweed, monarch migration, and nectar plants, including the ecosystem of insects visiting milkweed, the Oe parasite infection, the history of the Monarch Watch Tagging program, and implications and recommendations for New Orleans and the surround areas.
